Change Makers
What do you want to Change?
Make a Change: be a Change Maker.
Is there something you want to change? If you want to help someone in your community, set up a group or club, make your neighbourhood a better place to live, this project can help. I am looking for people who know what they want to do but maybe unsure how to get started. I can offer support and advice.
I am working for Suffolk Association of Voluntary Organisation (SAVO) on this one year project, funded through the Suffolk Coastal Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and supported by Suffolk Coastal Resources Network (SCRN). I want to recruit and support one hundred people in the Suffolk Coastal district to make positive changes in their community. You could be one of these people!
“This is an excellent new project which is being pioneered in our district thanks to our backing but which if successful could roll out across the whole of the county,” said Dr Wil Gibson, Board member of the Suffolk Coastal Local Strategic Partnership (SCLSP).
What are Suffolk Coastal Change Makers doing?
- setting up a parent and baby group for Grundisburgh
- building a petanque piste in Framlingham
- bringing Mabel the bus to promote activities and help with fundraising
- collecting football kit to send to developing countries
There are many more Change Maker activities just about to take off. You can join an existing group and help them out or set up your own, what would you like to do for your community?
Help wanted!
A Shopmobility scheme for Felixstowe
An opportunity to get involved right from the beginning!
- Do you work well in a small group?
- Are you sociable, good at talking to people?
- Do you have knowledge or experience of using electric scooters and wheelchairs (not essential but could be useful)?
- Do you agree that the town of Felixstowe would benefit from having a Shopmobility Scheme to loan electric scooters and wheelchairs to shoppers with mobility problems?
This project could give you a chance to use and develop your organisational skills by helping to set up a Shopmobility Scheme in Felixstowe. Keith is looking for enthusiastic people who want to get involved by helping to find the right venue; source funding; maybe organise some fundraising; persuade others to show their support for this practical service.
You could also be involved in recruiting volunteers to run the scheme on a day-to-day basis, or stay on and help with the running yourself!
The Change Maker Campaign can offer lots of support to help you to get this project off the ground. Contact Alison below.
Mabel the bus
Mabel is a big, beautiful double-decker bus who needs helpers to look after her!
She has a keeper called Mandy and they would particularly like to have someone with mechanical skills and experience to assist Mandy with those slightly more tricky maintenance issues!
You don’t to be a mechanic or even a bus driver to help out though; Mabel likes to attend charitable events to help raise awareness (and funds) for deserving causes when she is out and about she needs people to watch over her and welcome visitors to the bus.

Information point for Woodbridge
You are invited to our launch on Thursday 12th January 2012 at Woodbridge Library 9.30 am to 11.30 am.
- Are you a friendly person who is happy to chat to others?
- Do you have some knowledge of Woodbridge or would you like to find out more about what is going on in the town?
- Providing a service for local people, run by local people, you will be based in Woodbridge Library on Thursday mornings.
This is an opportunity to talk to others who may be interested in volunteering. The Volunteer Centres at Framlingham and Ipswich will provide plenty of information about what opportunities are available for volunteers in the Woodbridge area so that you can recruit people onto the various projects. You could even talk about your own experience of volunteering!
You might also have people looking for volunteers to help with their charitable or non-profit making organisations in the Woodbridge area; you could help them find the right people.
